RichardSPIRINGIt is with great sadness that the family must announce the passing of Richard Spiring (Rick), on July 20th, at Mount Gould Hospital, Plymouth at the age of 78.
Rick passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family after a short battle with Vascular Dementia. Rick, a widower to his much loved wife Janet (Jan), is survived by his two Sons Paul and Neil, his Grandson Samuel, his Mother Greta, his sister Julie and his brother Robert.
Originally from Bristol, Richard joined the Royal Navy after completing his study at Rodway High School. He eventually became a naval engineer on Nuclear Submarines attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After leaving the Navy he Joined the Avon and Somerset Constabulary where he worked as a Police Constable for the remainder of his career. He retired to Plymouth with his wife Jan and was active in the Police Male Voice Choir and the Submariners Association. Rick enjoyed his sports (a keen Bristol City fan) and played cricket and football for several amateur teams throughout his life.
Rick's funeral will be held at the Park Crematorium in Plymouth on August 13th at 11am. The family would like to invite anyone who knew Richard to attend.
A small gathering will be held at the Rose and Crown in Yealmpton, 1pm the same day.
Donations to The Royal British Legion are welcomed. Condolences to family can be directed through the Co-op Funeral Service, Ivybridge, Plymouth.
